Grow With Us: Dig Into Summer with Books, Dirt, and a Whole Lot of Heart!
Wednesday, 14 May 2025 14:24This summer, Wilkes County Public Library is going green—and we mean it literally!
We’re inviting you to roll up your sleeves, grab a trowel, and join us in the garden as we launch our Library Community Gardening Project! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or you’ve never touched a tomato plant in your life, this is your chance to grow something meaningful, not just vegetables, but community, connection, and a little more sunshine in your life.
We’re planting fresh vegetables and herbs with one delicious goal in mind: stocking our Library’s Community Fridge with homegrown goodness. This fridge is open to all and helps provide nutritious options to anyone in need. Your green thumbs can make a real difference!
Read & Root: A Book Club with Depth
To go along with our outdoor adventure, we’re hosting a Virtual Book Club featuring The Well-Gardened Mind: The Restorative Power of Nature by Sue Stuart-Smith. It's a beautifully written, soul-nourishing exploration of how tending the earth can help us grow mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually.
Find out more online at Community Garden - Wilkes County Wellness - LibGuides at Appalachian Regional Library
Join us online to chat about the book, swap planting tips, and share stories about your own journey through nature and nurture. The book is available in our online e-book/audio collection, and limited copies are available on request.
Why You Should Join In:
- Catch some rays while contributing to a meaningful cause
- Learn to grow your own veggies—no experience needed!
- Connect with neighbors (and some worms)
- Take a mindful break from the hustle of everyday life
- Get inspired by a book that celebrates the healing power of nature
- Stock the fridge and nourish your community
How to Get Involved:
